The University Senate is approaching a decision on next year's academic calendar.

Jim Applegate, co-chair of the Education Committee of the USenate, said that he expected a formal academic calendar proposal would be decided upon at the committee’s March 12 meeting.

Among the recommendations being considered are a student proposal to start the fall semester on the first Monday of September, and a faculty proposal to eliminate the Election Day break and hold finals over the weekend. The proposal created by the Education Committee will be presented during the Senate’s April 2 plenary meeting for discussion.

Speaking on the upcoming committee meeting, Applegate stated, “I would hope we have a consensus on how to go forward.”
